Description

Diabetic charcopathic arthropathy remains one of the most challenging pathologies facing orthopedic surgeons. The aim of this symposium is to provide insight on various treatment options for this pathology, ranging from early surgical preventive intervention, through treatment of various anatomical regions of the ankle and foot and the role of new treatment modalities such as distraction osteogenesis for infected cases. The symposium aims to provide a refresher for the generalist and to give
them the tools to medically optimize these patients as well as to provide a learning forum for those who actively treat Charcot deformities on a daily basis.

Learning Objectives

  • Identifying new algorithms in managing the early charcopathic ankle and foot and potential role for early surgical intervention
  • Managing complex charcopathic deformities of the ankle as well as combined ankle and hindfoot deformities, including the “Triple Attack” theory with an evidenced based approach
  • Approaching the midfoot Charcot and discussing the debate between the “Super construct” with a stabilized midfoot versus the “Flipper Foot"
