Description

Digital musculoskeletal therapy companies now sit between millions of patients and orthopaedic care, sold directly to employers and health plans as a lower-cost alternative to in-person treatment. This final webinar in the AAOS Digital Health series maps the commercial landscape: who the major players are, what they actually deliver, how they are paid, and what the independent evidence does and does not show. Eric Swart and Ray Hwang examine how these programs reshape referral patterns and what surgeons are already seeing in their own practices. The session closes on the practical question of whether digital MSK is a threat to orthopaedic practice, a partnership opportunity, or both, and what surgeons and the Academy should do next.

Learning Obejctives

1. Describe the major categories of commercial digital MSK programs, including how they are structured, who purchases them, and how they generate revenue.
2. Evaluate the current evidence base for digital MSK therapy outcomes, including independent assessments, and distinguish where that evidence is strong from where it is thin.
3. Anticipate the effect of digital MSK programs on orthopaedic referral patterns and identify practical options for surgeons and practices to compete, partner, or engage.
